Q: Will fueling a small engine with propane damage the engine?
A: No. Since propane is on the low end of the hydrocarbon scale meaning that there is hardly any carbon in propane. Carbon is what makes the oil in a engine turn black and causes build up around the pistons and cylinders(gunk). Propane fuel goes in as a vapor so there is no raw fuel entering the cylinders. Therefore there is much less carbon buildup in the motor. Carbon connects to the piston rings and goes in to the oil. So this is the main reason why propane engines last 3-5 years longer than mowers that use gasoline.
Q: What type of maintenance will I have to do while running propane?
A: Fewer oil and spark plug changes and less maintenance in general.
